If you know your device's wattage, use the Electricity Cost Calculator. For appliances that run in cycles like washers or dishwashers, use the Appliance Energy Cost Calculator. For heating, cooling, or electric vehicles, choose the specific calculator for that system.
What electricity rate should I enter?
You should enter your effective electricity rate per kilowatt-hour (kWh). You can find this on your recent utility bill by dividing your total bill amount by the total kWh used, which accounts for both supply and delivery charges.
Are calculator results based on live utility rates?
No, our calculators require you to input your specific electricity rate. We use default national averages as placeholders, but since rates vary significantly by location and utility provider, using your actual rate provides the best estimate.
Why might my actual energy cost differ from the estimate?
Calculators provide estimates based on steady, predictable usage. Actual costs differ due to fluctuating household habits, changing weather conditions, tiered utility pricing, device age, and standby power consumption.
