Do LEDs really save that much?
Yes. An LED bulb typically uses 80% to 90% less energy than a traditional incandescent bulb while producing the same amount of light (lumens).
What is an equivalent wattage?
A '60-watt equivalent' LED doesn't use 60 watts. It means the LED puts out the same amount of light as a traditional 60-watt incandescent bulb. The LED itself might only use 8 or 9 watts.
Do I have to wait for my old bulbs to burn out?
Usually no. Because LEDs are so much more efficient, the energy cost savings of replacing a perfectly good incandescent bulb with an LED will almost always pay for the cost of the LED within a few months of regular use.
